Extend the Life of Your Window Film

Extend the Life of Your Window Film with Proper Care

Investing in LLumar window tinting provides UV protection, heat reduction, privacy, and security, but proper maintenance is essential to keep your tints looking fresh and performing at their best. Incorrect cleaning methods or harsh products can lead to peeling, bubbling, and discoloration.

At Automotive Solutions, we provide expert installation and maintenance advice to ensure your film stay in top condition for years. Follow these steps to protect your investment.

The Do’s & Don’ts of Window Film Maintenance

Car window film cleaning

1. Wait Before Cleaning Newly Tinted Windows

After installation, your film needs time to cure. Cleaning too soon can cause damage.

Do: Wait 5-7 days before rolling down windows or cleaning the film.
Don’t: Use water or cleaners on fresh tints, as they need time to fully adhere.

Tip: Some small water bubbles may appear during curing—this is normal and will disappear as the film dries.

2. Use the Right Cleaning Products

Standard glass cleaners often contain ammonia, which can damage and discolor window films.

Do: Use ammonia-free glass cleaners or a mix of mild soap and water.
Do: Use a microfiber cloth or soft sponge to prevent scratches.
Don’t: Use harsh chemicals, abrasive cloths, or newspaper.

Did You Know? LLumar window films have scratch-resistant coatings, but improper cleaning can still cause damage over time.

3. Avoid Sharp Objects & Harsh Scrubbing

Even high-quality tints can be scratched or punctured if handled roughly.

Do: Wipe gently with a soft cloth or rubber squeegee.
Do: Be mindful of pets or objects that may scratch the window film.
Don’t: Use blades, scouring pads, or hard-bristled brushes.

4. Protect Your Tint from Sun Damage & Fading

Although LLumar films are designed to resist fading, prolonged exposure to extreme heat can affect longevity.

Do: Park in shaded areas or use a sunshade to reduce exposure.
Do: Keep your car interior clean, as dust buildup can attract heat.
Don’t: Use DIY tints, which fade much faster than professionally installed high qulity films.

5. Be Mindful When Rolling Down Windows

Improper use of windows can cause tint peeling and lifting, especially near the edges.

Do: Wait at least a week after installation before rolling down windows.
Do: Open windows gently and avoid pressing directly on the film.
Don’t: Use excessive force when rolling windows up or down.

From booking to installation, everything was seamless. Wouldn’t go anywhere else!… but not only that Mark even advised me on how to care for my film so it lasts longer. Excellent aftercare!

Common Window Film Issues & How to Fix Them

1. Bubbles in the Tint

  • Cause: Air or moisture trapped under the film during curing.
  • Solution: Most bubbles disappear after 1-2 weeks. If they persist, professional reapplication may be needed.

2. Peeling or Lifting Edges

  • Cause: Rolling windows down too soon, poor-quality tint, or improper installation.
  • Solution: Avoid touching the edges—if peeling worsens, seek professional tint repair.

3. Tint Turning Purple or Fading

  • Cause: Cheap window film without UV resistance degrade over time.
  • Solution: LLumar window films are fade-resistant, but if you have DIY tints, consider a professional upgrade.
